BIG GUY UPDATE 2008:

Cindy and I moved over the hill, to Santa Cruz in 2008. We live up in a beautiful house overlooking a valley of ranches, and are 7 minutes from     the Ocean. From my deck it looks like we live in a Treehouse, with the Tops of 4 tall Ponderosa Pines off our deck. Tony Villador has aptly     named it The Swanderosa. We Love It Here. I am still selling on EBAY both in Auctions and also an EBAY store, both under the EBAY name “ bigguyscomics “ . If you are an old customer and are looking to buy or sell older comics and collectibles , Give Me A Call or EMAIL me. And if you’d just like to say Hi, I’d like that too.

BIG GUY UPDATE 2002:

Hey Guys,

I just wanted you guys to know I sold my store. It changed hands
Thursday, May 30, 2002. Three weeks before I had no plans to ever sell the shop so this is very sudden.

I got a BUNCH of money, much more than I would have gotten if I had tried to sell it. I got the Chief a solid hunk of money too, and he will stay on. I had to sign a 5-year Non-Compete clause for the area surrounding the store, but only 2 years for the area near my house in
South San Jose where I will open, if I open again.

I have full access to my Mailing List, and the ability to contact all my customers. They have agreed to hand out contact information at the shop so people will be able to get ahold of me. This was a point that was not negotiable. Sixteen years ago I was bounced out of my former stores Comics and Comix without a moments notice. A complicated tale of Corporate greed. I had relationships with people I had known for 10-15 years who I was never able to say goodbye to, or contact again. Anyhow, these guys are being very
cool, and I'll be able to stay in touch with everybody.

I'll still be dealing old comics, selling on Ebay, and out of my house to those of you who are close to me. If I'm lucky, life will slow enough, and I'll figure out some other things to do for the next couple of years that I'll really enjoy. It will give me some time to try and hunt down some cool old stuff that's still out there undiscovered. I know it's there.

I get my name back, Big Guy's Comics, and will operate my wholesale board business, and any future comic business as such.

Maybe I'll find something I like doing more, but if not I'll be back in a couple of years doing what I've done for the last 33 years, and be back with a retail store.

And I'll get a little vacation time with my wife. I've had exactly 1 vacation in the last 25 years that lasted more than 3-4 days. I want to go on a cruise to
Alaska and see some big Glaciers. When I'm out on vacation with Cindy nothing else seems important. And now I can go to PulpCon if I want to or SD con, or just drive to Monterey and check out some bookstores.

Anyhow, this one was about money and at least a couple of years of personal freedom.

The new owners are Phil Schlaefer, and Joseph (JJ) Levine. These guys both love old comics. Phil has owned 3 different stores in the past including Heroes in
Campbell (for 11 years), and Little Shop of Heroes in Cupertino. JJ has interests in gaming and some other near-comic stuff too, so you may see more variety than just comics. Give these guys a chance. They've been good to me.

The personal part of this is the part that I may not be able to stand.  Not seeing everybody on a daily basis, and just talking comics. I love it. So please call me, write me, Email me, and stay in contact with me. I promise to call you or write back and let you know what's up. Please remember that, like always, I'm really bad with names, so be patient, and if you write me, Send a Picture. Hey, that's a good idea.

The things I'll miss the most are hanging with the Chief, working with my two favorite Jeremys, and seeing all you guys. When it all shakes out, the personal relationships are what Life is about.

So here's how to get ahold of me
